EGDu3a and the Wider Community

In our monthly newsletter to all members we highlight local organisations who can provide support or advice, as well as any notices of local events. Lately we have had heard of more scams so we try to warn members to be cautious when on-line or dealing with unsolicited phone calls.

Of interest to the local area is maintaining the Grantham Canal which flows through Edwalton and Gamston . It has not been navigable for a very long time but there are beautiful walks along the towpath and it supports a lot of wildlife. It is cared for by the The Canal and River Trust which encourages Rushcliffe residents to take advantage of the haven for wildlife that is the canal. The charity also runs volunteering sessions to tackle litter, lay hedges, etc. To find out more, visit canalrivertrust.org.uk.

At times water levels can be low and Webcam is an organisation of local residents who aim to restore consistent water levels in the local sections of the canal and keep it attractive to wildlife. General meetings are held in the Poppy & Pint and other venues in West Bridgford. Volunteers put on waders and enter the water on a weekly basis.
